USEFUL SYMBIOSIS
Pavel Forman
Pavel Forman explores figurative painting and the outreach of this discipline in other media such as digital printing, photography or wall installations.
We were looking for similarities in the context of the work on both sides of the ocean and have tried to search for pairs and trios who share an artistic expression in spite of their different cultural and geo-political backgrounds. We have been looking for common themes through social networks and
during some exceptional personal meetings.
The Artists
Monty Helm
is a painter, sculptor and printmaker. He is the director of the Art Program at OCTand Associate Professor of
Art. He has exhibited throughout the United States.
Lou O´Leary
She works as a painter, photographer, and ceramicist. She teaches drawing, design and ceramics at OCTC. Her works are in various private and public collections in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Tereza Hrubá
Tereza’s field is dance photography and portraiture with a special interest in drama and ballet.
John Schartung
is a printmaker and painter. He has exhibited is work throughout the United States and Europe. He teaches art at Brescia University and Owensboro Community Technical College.

Jana Babincová
graduated in 2002 from PdF UP Olomouc, art education –German language and in 2006 from FaVU VUT Brno in Studio Painting III. Currently she lives and works in Prague.
Jindřich Štreit
Jindřich Štreit is a professor at the Institute of Creative Photography, Silesian University in Opava. His works feature among the collections of many essential museums and galleries.
Jiří Krtička
Jiří Krtička explores geometrical abstraction in his
paintings. He has taken part in exhibitions since 1978.
Lucas Ray
is a current art major at Owensboro
Community and Technical College. On completion of his degree, he plans on continuing his studies at Western Kentucky University. He has several artworks included in OCTC’s permanent art collection. He has studied both two-dimensional and
three-dimensional art forms at OCTC.
Jenifer Segrest
is an alumnus of Owensboro Community and Technical College and has studied at Miami
University in Ohio. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western Kentucky University. Segrest’s main
area of emphasis is photography and has been featured in Photographer’s Forum Magazine: Best College Photography.
Heather Murphy McNeiley
began her studies in art at Owensboro Community and Technical College and then completed her
Bachelor’s of rt Degree from Brescia University. She received her Master of Fine rts Degree in Traditional and Digital Illustration from the Academy of Art University. McNeiley is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Kentucky Wesleyan College and the Director of their Studio and Graphic Arts Program. She works as a fine artist and illustrator.
David Stratton
is a painter and draughtsperson. He is the Chair of Brescia University’s Art Department and is a Professor of Art and Graphic Design. He has exhibited his work in galleries and museum throughout the United States and
received a Master of Fine Arts and Master of Science Degree in Drawing from Illinois State University.
Devon Elayne Murphy
is currently an art student at the University of Louisville working towards her Bachelor of Fine
Arts Degree. In the summer of 2011, she advanced her studies in drawing through the Owensboro Community and Technical College / Sister Cities Summer Studies Program in the Czech Republic. Murphy major area of emphasis is in painting and
drawing.
David Jedlička
is teacher of DOPLNIT at .. DOPLNIT He still lives and works in Olomouc. His work focuses
on figurative painting.
Štefan Berec
I was born in Prague in 1979 and have lived in Olomouc since 2008. I have been systematically involved in photography since 1995. For many years I have always kept a camera on me, shooting the things happening around me. Social documentary is
therefore the genre closest to my heart. I currently work as a social worker with people with schizophrenia.
Charles Shoemaker
studied painting, printmaking, and ceramics at Owensboro Community and Technical
College in the 1990’s. He is both an artist and a musician/songwriter. Shoemaker has regularly exhibited within the Ohio
River Valley Region. Shoemaker’s work is expressionistic in style and he can be described as an outsider artist.
Drew Stinnett
has studied painting, drawing, and sculpture at Owensboro Community and Technical College. He
has completed his Bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University and is now working on his Master inrt Therapy at
St. Mary of the Woods. He works as a mural painter and freelance artist.
Magdalena Turzová
studied at the Department of Art Education in Olomouc and now lives in Lobodice. Her fundamental form
of expression is painting and creating small three-dimensional objects from cardboard and other “found materials. She teaches art in Tovačov.
Aaron Midkiff
is an artist from Kentucky. He is a plain air painter. He studied art at Owensboro Community and
Technical College and the University of Louisville. Besides painting in oils, he is a drummer for the band, Hounds and Horns.
Meagan Williams
has studied art at Western Kentucky University, Owensboro Community and Technical College, and Watkins College of Art. She works primarily in mixed media, painting, and drawing. Williams is noted for her live performance painting and describes her work as whimsical reality.
Jolana Lažová
absolvovala bakalářské studium v oboru Výtvarná tvorba se zaměřením na vzdělávání na Univerzitě Palackého v Olomouci. V současné době pokračuje v navazujícím magisterském studiu. Jejím hlavním zájmem je barevná portrétní fotografie. Snaží se hledat nové možnosti a balancuje na hranici experimentu.
Jennifer Walker
is a current art student at Owensboro Community and Technical College. Her main focus in art
is in the medium of oil painting. After graduating from OCTC she plans to continue her studies at Western Kentucky
University, in studio arts and art education.
Tomáš Petřík
after studying photography at SUPŠ in Uherské Hradiště
(1999 –2003) Tomáš Petřík changed his focus to painting and drawing. Since entering the Faculty of ducation, Palacky
University in Olomouc (since 2007), his artwork has been dynamically changing using experimental techniques, new media,
painting, drawing and graphics, particularly linocuts.
Amelia Jacob
is a current art student at Owensboro Community and Technical College. She is studying painting and sculpture. Her has been featured in the OCTC Skylark periodical.
Vladimír Havlík
is a performer, painter, draughtsman and university teacher.
Enid Roach
is a painter, ceramists, and fiber artist living in Owensboro, Kentucky. She studied art at Owensboro
Community and Technical College, Brescia University, and received a Master of Arts Degree from Western Kentucky
University. She is both an artist and an educator. Her work is represented in collections throughout Kentucky and the Ohio
River Region.
Monika Beková
graduated from the Department of Art at the University of Palacky where she is continuing her studies as
a PhD. student. She uses drawing, print and site-specific art in her work. Her art reflects on a specific space and its hidden
characteristics, reviving and transforming these places with installations, performances or spatial drawing. She works with
various materials and using large format drawing.
Kateřina Barabášová
studied art at the University of Palacky in Olomouc. During her studies, she had art internships in Pécs (Hungary) and Berlin (Germany). Her main area of art is painting, drawing and also performance.
Jan Krtička
is the associate professor at Palacky University Olomouc in the Art Education Department. His main area of focus is conceptual art and sound installations that have been featured in many group and solo exhibitions.
Vanessa Tong
is a painter who is currently working on her Bachelor of Arts Degree at Kentucky Wesleyan College. She graduated with honors from Owensboro Community and Technical College in 2011 with an Associate of Arts Degree. Besides her studies, she teaches private lessons in art. Several of her works are included in OCTC’s permanent collection.
Amy Scherrer
has worked in both two and three-dimensional art forms. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree
from Brescia University. She currently is a professional graphic designer for the Messenger Inquirer Newspaper in
Owensboro.
John Atkinson
started his formal training in art by enrolling in a ceramics class at Brescia College in the fall of 1985. This personal indulgence in clay led to a series of classes and eventually to a degree from Brescia. Painting and drawing
instructor, Lance Hunter, played a key role in influencing the style and direction of John’s artistic pursuits. Atkinson works
primarily in painting and pastel drawing.
Rachel Helm
Trena Bratcher
is a current art major at Brescia University. She works primarily in drawing and painting. It is her intent to pursue graduate study in the fine arts and art education. Her career goals are to teach art.
